3-cup rice cooker capacity by rice type
Last checked 2026-10-03.
Per their manuals, a 3-cup cooker's range depends on the menu: both the Zojirushi NS-LGC05 and the Tiger JBS-A55U take 0.5 to 3 rice cups of white rice but only 0.5 to 2 of brown rice, and the Zojirushi's sushi menu starts at 1 cup. The cups are the makers' own, about 180 mL: 3 rice cups is about 2.28 US cups of raw rice. Cooked yield is not stated in either manual.

Raw rice, levelled in each maker's own cup. Sources: Zojirushi NS-LGC05: manual p. 12, “Tips to cooking various rice menus”; Tiger JBS-A55U: manual pp. 10–13, “Menu Functions” (no sushi or steel-cut menu among its ten).
Kinds of claim on this page: capacities, cups, voltages and pot care are product evidence from each maker's manual and product page; a replacement pot's fit is a compatibility statement, the maker's own part list; pot materials are named as the makers name them, a manufacturer claim, not a finding about safety; anything no source states, such as cooked yield, is unknown. No price is shown.

Without JavaScript the check does not update; the tables above are complete. Below the minimum or above the maximum is outside what the manual lists for that menu, not a measured failure.
We tested nothing: no taste, texture, speed or energy measurements, and nothing here ranks the rice. Capacities are raw rice in each maker's rice cup, not cooked rice and not US cups. Nothing here judges any coating's safety.
