Vitamix container compatibility

Last checked 2026-10-03.

By Vitamix's own statements, the 48 oz. Classic container fits the Legacy 5200 and the Explorian E320, and the 48 oz. SELF-DETECT container fits the Ascent X2. The X2 manual does not list the Classic container, and whether the SELF-DETECT container works on the 5200 or E320 is contradicted between the sources read (the E320 manual, Vitamix's SELF-DETECT article and the container's listing), so those cells claim no fit. Lids and tampers are not interchangeable between container styles and sizes, per the manuals: use the ones sold with the container.

Compatibility, with the source for each cell

stated: Vitamix, or the container's listing, names that base or its series. not stated: no source read names the pair. conflict: the sources read contradict each other. Only stated is treated as a fit.

Kinds of claim on this page: sizes, controls, heights, fill limits and warranties are product evidence from each base's 120 V US owner's manual and Vitamix's product pages; container fits are compatibility statements, Vitamix's or the container listing's own words; nothing here is a manufacturer claim about blending results; a fit no source settles, or that the sources contradict, is unknown. No prices are shown: check the current price at the retailer.

Each base already includes one container (the 5200 a 64 oz. Classic, the E320 a 64 oz. low-profile, the X2 a 48 oz. SELF-DETECT). A second container works only where the table above says its fit is stated.

Vitamix's E320 product page links a different PDF, the 220–240 V international edition (VM0201); the 120 V US edition is cited instead. CPSC recall 24-276 (June 2024) covers Ascent and Venturist 8- and 20-ounce blending containers and blade bases, sold separately; not the X2 base or its 48 oz. container. Vitamix E320: on Amazon on 2026-10-03 the E320 (B08JXHQ3YF) was “Currently unavailable”, with no offer to link, so it gets no link.

We tested nothing: no texture, noise, heat, speed or durability measurements, and nothing here ranks blending results. Container sizes are nominal; horsepower and watts are not shown as a performance measure. The fill limits are each manual's words, not a working capacity we measured.
