Vitamix 5200 vs Ascent X2

Last checked 2026-10-03.

Per their US owner's manuals, the 5200 is a Legacy base: variable speed and a High switch, a 64 oz. Classic container, a 7-year warranty. The Ascent X2 is an Ascent base: variable speed plus three programs and self-cleaning, a 48 oz. SELF-DETECT container, a 10-year warranty. The difference that lasts is the container family: the X2 manual lists only SELF-DETECT containers, and whether a SELF-DETECT container works on the 5200 is contradicted between the sources read (Vitamix's SELF-DETECT article and the container's own listing), so no cross-family fit is claimed here.

Kinds of claim on this page: sizes, controls, heights, fill limits and warranties are product evidence from each base's 120 V US owner's manual and Vitamix's product pages; container fits are compatibility statements, Vitamix's or the container listing's own words; nothing here is a manufacturer claim about blending results; a fit no source settles, or that the sources contradict, is unknown. No prices are shown: check the current price at the retailer.

Extra containers: what each base takes

Height with the container on the base: Vitamix 5200 20.5 in with the 64 oz. container (manual); Vitamix Ascent X2 17.00 in with the 48 oz. container on the base (manual). Measure the space under your cabinets before choosing.

Vitamix's E320 product page links a different PDF, the 220–240 V international edition (VM0201); the 120 V US edition is cited instead. CPSC recall 24-276 (June 2024) covers Ascent and Venturist 8- and 20-ounce blending containers and blade bases, sold separately; not the X2 base or its 48 oz. container. Vitamix E320: on Amazon on 2026-10-03 the E320 (B08JXHQ3YF) was “Currently unavailable”, with no offer to link, so it gets no link.

We tested nothing: no texture, noise, heat, speed or durability measurements, and nothing here ranks blending results. Container sizes are nominal; horsepower and watts are not shown as a performance measure. The fill limits are each manual's words, not a working capacity we measured.
